Stress Management Hypnotherapy
The symptoms of stress vary from person to person and can present themselves
as physical, or emotional symptoms.
Some of the symptoms of stress include cognitive, emotional, physical or
behavioural. Signs include poor judgment, a general negative outlook, excessive
worrying, moodiness, irritability, agitation, inability to relax, feeling
lonely, isolated or depressed, aches and pains, diarrhoea or constipation,
nausea, dizziness, chest pain, rapid heartbeat, eating too much or not enough,
sleeping too much or not enough, social withdrawal, procrastination or neglect
of responsibilities, increased alcohol, nicotine or drug consumption, and
nervous habits such as pacing about, nail-biting and neck pains. (Wikipedia

If stress is prolonged it can often present itself by way of physical illness
such as regular coughs, colds, stomach upsets etc.
Essentially anything that you perceive to be threatening which stimulates you to
be ready for action (fight, flight or freeze) is a stressor; we need a certain
amount of stimulation, however when we begin to fail to cope, the stimulation is
perceived as negative and our health and mental resilience may begin to decline.
How Can Hypnotherapy Help With Stress?
Hypnotherapy is an excellent treatment for stress. Together with breathing
and relaxation techniques which also help with stress, it provides you with a
set of tools and techniques to help you recognise and address your stressors and
choose an alternative response, which rather than masking or trying to suppress
the issue, really does help with stress levels.
I take an holistic approach to the treatment for stress and find that physical
exercise can also be helpful.
What can I expect to happen at a hypnotherapy session for the treatment of
stress?
Well the first step to getting help with stress can be to identify and
address the actual source of the stress, such as work or family issues, however
there are some stressful situations which cannot necessarily be changed such as
the experience of bereavement, redundancy etc and in these instances it is
possible to work with the sufferer to strengthen their emotional resilience in
order to help them manage the situation until such times as issues become
resolved.
If the treatment for stress cannot include resolving the problem itself, and
let’s face it, sometimes we cannot change the situation in which we find
ourselves, another way to help with stress is to learn how to bring your mind
and body into a state of relaxation, after all, it is not possible to feel
stresses and relaxed at the same time.
So we will discuss your symptoms, causes and history of stress and develop some
goals and desirable outcomes to aim for from the hypnotherapy treatment for
stress. I may well ask you to rate your stress levels on a scale of 1-10, so
that we can track your progress and you begin to need less and less help with
stress.
The hypnotherapy treatment for stress session itself is usually very relaxing in
its own right and most clients find it very enjoyable.
